About Chef Diego
Chef Diego Navarro was born in Mexico City and was raised in the state of Veracruz. Since very early age he knew that gastronomy was his passion. He studied at the Culinary Institute of Mexico and graduated in 2010. He went on to work in the kitchen of the most luxurious resorts, the Rosewood Mayakoba in Playa del Carmen. He got his masters degree in the top culinary school in the world, the Basque Culinary Center in the north Spain. He became a small business owner when he opened Polanquito with his brother in April 2019. Chef Diego is dedicated to bringing authentic Mexican cuisine to downtown Houston area.
Polanquito is a family-owned restaurant determined to bring a little bit piece of Mexico to the great people of Houston, Texas. Its name comes from “Polanco”, a trendy neighborhood in Mexico city filled with upscale gastronomy, “ito” means little in Spanish, therefore Polanquito means “little Polanco”. Brothers Santiago Navarro and chef Diego Navarro opened on April 2019. It’s their mission to bring authentic Mexican cuisine in an environment that feels just like home.
